Michelle Bolsonaro, the new first lady of Brazil, made history by giving her inaugural address in Brazilian Sign Language. In her speech she used sign language to thank her supporters and promised to help the Deaf and those with special needs. While her first language is Portuguese, she learned Sign Language later on and was a Sign Language teacher before becoming first lady. It’s great to see a spotlight shining on those who often have to struggle in the shadows.
