A Deaf Ph.D student has trouble getting a sign language interpreter at University of California at Berkley.
It’s hard to believe that this is still an issue especially within the UC system. After interpreting at many colleges and universities in and around the Los Angeles, Long Beach, Anaheim, and surrounding areas I’ve always thought interpreters were generally accessible throughout California, but it seems I was wrong. If you need a Sign Language or Spanish interpreter in the Southern California area, send us an email or give us a call and we’d be glad to help you out. Sometimes we can even mediate between a Deaf client and the responsible party. Organizations are not always educated in the rights of the Deaf, and so after simply explaining their obligations, they sometimes realize that not only is it a legal obligation in many cases, but it’s simply the moral thing to do.
