JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A suspect in a home invasion robbery at Sable Palms Apartments who stabbed by a deaf man early Tuesday morning has been arrested, authorities said.

Elvedin Zukic, 19, faces charges of home invasion robbery with a firearm and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 2 a.m., officers responded to the apartment complex located at 2150 Emerson Street.

According to JSO, the 22-year-old victim was cooking and opened the front door of his apartment to get fresh air when Zukic approached with a firearm in his jacket pocket. Zukic then began demanding money and looking around the apartment for something, investigators said.

The victim — who is deaf — tried to convey to the suspect he did not understand what he wanted, police said, then went to his bedroom and grabbed a silver sword with a black handle. When the victim turned around, he saw Zukic in the doorway and stabbed him in the abdomen, according to the incident report. The suspect then ran off.

The victim was able to communicate what happened with officers on scene through text, JSO said.

About an hour later, officers responded to the Gate gas station located at 3150 Emerson Street after receiving reports of a person who had been stabbed. Witnesses told investigators that the man was bleeding from the chest.

Officers took the victim to the gas station, who then identified the man with the stab wound as the suspect in the robbery. A bag of marijuana was also discovered in the suspect’s clothing, the incident report said.

Zukic was then transported to UF Health with non-life-threatening injuries and arrested, according to JSO.

He is being held without bond at the Duval County Jail, jail records show. ”
